I’m not having much luck with the cow’s eye. If you haven’t been following this, on Sili’s suggestion* I’m trying to find out what shape its pupil is. It seems to be very like the horse’s eye, but I can’t seem to get good enough natural light to make the pupil distinct. This cow got fed up with being chased by photographers, at least you can see that in her eye:
* Danes have dairy genes.
I was raised by cows.
But they taught me to bow my head in shame and not look them in the eye.
I once dissected a cow’s eye in some biology class back in the 70’s and don’t remember anything unusual about the pupil. Of course I was busy sneezing and trying to breathe as my head was swelling up from the formaldehyde, or whatever they used to preserve biology specimens in those days.
As children we were taught that the only really important thing about cows was not to stand behind them since they can kick. Oh, and to watch where you step.
* Danes have dairy genes.
And yes, they were dairy cows and belonged to my grandfather who was born in Denmark.
Cows kick sideways, not backwards. Horses kick backwards.
But they shit backwards.
Never walk behind a sneezing cow.
I don’t know, people pay a lot for cow shit at garden centres (I just take it — it’s good honest stuff, it’s not like dogshit).
It’s not good unless it’s aged, though. Too much nitrogen or something. You’re paying for the year or two years of storage during the aging process, not for the substance itself.
Chicken is good too, also pig, although that’s a bit smelly for in-town neighbors.
[…] may remember, I tried this research last summer. Now, finally I got close enough to take a picture that shows a cow’s eye in […]
