It looks a bit like a sea snail of some sort. Or rather, its shell looks like a sea shell.
Yes, although it could just be the funny angle. I realised afterwards I had a better picture, one that included horns.

That shell looks exactly like the escargot they used to serve at the Sofitel in Minneapolis.
