From the Turkish grocers, Ayran and Dough yoghurt drinks. Dough is fizzy. Both are really good. I actually bought it for Jack because they didn’t have buttermilk, but I’m having it.

What I loved…it’s been ages since I made any…was something called “xergis” – I suppose everybody but me knows more about it than I do; but it was cucumber and mint, whizzed up with yoghurt and water, and it was divine. I hoped we could just give up wine with meals….but that didn’t happen.
Maybe there was a pinch of salt.
Tell me more about these drinks!
Please.
Xerxis sounds good. It must be raita or something. There’s a wikipedia article about Ayran, that’s all I know. I think the salt adds flavour.

I remember lassie as being thicker than this stuff. Now I see how much salt it contains I’m going to have to stop buying it practically before I’d started.
“Dough” is an odd variation of what is usually spelled doogh (Persian دوغ dūgh). Unfortunately, I’m not crazy about fizzy water.
Or fizzy milk either.
