I expect you are all drowning in tears. Is your post ambiguous? Have Holly and Misty both died last week? Oh, I am so sorry and so sad. We should have more goat news…always.
Thanks for this post, both because it gives us a chance to mourn Vesla (whom we all miss) and Holly (alas) and because it revives a much-loved blog. Surely Misty is still with us?
Misty had a stroke and couldn’t walk. Her legs were useless, she couldn’t stand. It had been the same problem for Vesla. They were both fine mentally but both times the vet figured there was no treatment, so she killed them with an anaesthetic or muscle relaxant or whatever it is they use. She said Holly had to be killed too because she had never been alone and would be miserable (true). The only way out would have been for her to join another herd, but we didn’t know any other herds and it would have been very hard for her to thrive in such circumstances.
At least we know how long they live now.
Alma is planning to get more goats, dogs and a couple of horses when she returns to Norway permanently (min 3 years, I think.). Dyveke & I want a break from looking after animals and never being able to leave them. We’re happy with just the two dogs. We might change our minds next week.
Stu changes his nickname but he’s as wise as always (Grumpy or not).
I really understand your decision, of course was the best thing to do.
Perhaps I’m just extra sorry because this June I think I’m going to Norway (there’s a conference on Cervantes in Tromso) and I was holding the hope to meet the girls…
Lovely, sad, and (the bit about the shadow) funny. I did not know the goats were all gone.
Oh, I’m so sorry! They were kind of my internet family form many years. Receive my love from this part of the planet.
O Vesla! O Holly!
We are so sad… and so old! And we miss you… Where do the old goats’ years go?
Goasts, come back!!

Many thanks for your comments. They are very welcome, and just what I would hope for from you lot. xxx
So here is another respect in which humans differ from animals – nobody puts humans out of their misery when all their friends die. Fabulous.
I know. None of the reasons for killing pets & other animals seems to apply to humans.
Did you see that end-of-the-60s film “They Shoot Horses Don’t They” ?

I hope we get to see you anyway! Of course Tromsø is a long way from Oslo, but you may have to change planes here.
A long time ago. I can’t remember much. I think it took place at the Roseland ballroom in Times Square.
Would this be the last post in the category “About Goats”?
Not likely. There are no plans to phase out any sections.
